We're introducing new plans to match how different people use Vimeo. Public videos are now free and unlimited, with storage limits for non-public and embeddable videos only. Filmmakers can join the Indie Program for a 90% discount.
The first people to use Vimeo were filmmakers. Over time, we evolved to serve other users too, from small teams to large companies.
But our plans didn’t evolve with us. Despite their different needs, an independent filmmaker and large company got the same plan at the same price. As a result, neither was properly served. For example:
- A filmmaker sharing a small portfolio used the same plan as a company with terabytes of video embedded across multiple domains.
- As they grew their audience, a filmmaker would hit bandwidth limits designed to manage commercial distribution for businesses.
- Companies could bypass limits by signing up with multiple accounts meant for individuals.
So, starting today, we're rolling out a new set of individual plans to address this. Here’s what’s changed and why:
- Public storage and bandwidth are free and unlimited—so filmmakers can freely share all their work on Vimeo.
- The entry tier is cheaper, with less storage and fewer features—so fewer people pay for benefits they don’t need.
- Plans differ by Managed storage, which is for non-public and embeddable videos only. This means creators sharing work publicly on Vimeo avoid limits designed for business hosting.
- Accounts identified for business use aren’t allowed to use our new individual plans. Instead, they transition to our new Studio plan—with business-level features and capacity at a lower price than our Enterprise plan.
The new plans for individuals are Free, Creator, Core, and Professional. You can see how they compare below.
| Free | Creator | Core | Professional | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PriceBilled annually | $0/mo | $9/mo | $24.50/mo | $71/mo |
| Public storage | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Managed storage | 3 GB | 50 GB | 500 GB* | 7 TB |
Independent filmmakers can also apply for the Indie Program, which offers all the benefits of Professional at a 90% discount.
*If you’re an existing user transitioning to Core, your Managed storage is increased to 2 TB, so you keep all your previous storage. If you downgrade to Core, or sign up as a new user, your Managed storage remains 500 GB.
You can choose whichever new plan suits you best, and you’ll renew under that plan.
If you don’t choose a new plan before renewal, your account will automatically transition to whichever new plan keeps your full storage and features at the lowest price, to ensure you don’t lose any video.
For most people, this happens at your next renewal. You’ll receive a notice email one month before your plan changes, at which point you can:
- Renew on your new plan, with no action required
- Upgrade or downgrade to a different new plan of your choice
- Cancel your subscription to avoid any billing
We know plan changes have been disruptive in the past. That’s why we’re giving notice in advance, and have taken nearly a year to ensure that our new plans are sustainable in the long-term for everyone—no matter how they use Vimeo.
If you have any questions about the new plans, our customer support team is available to help you 24/7—get in touch here.
Frequently asked questions
What’s happening with Vimeo plans?
We’re introducing new plans to match how different people use Vimeo. Before renewal, you can choose whichever new plan best suits you.
Creator, Core, Professional, and Studio are replacing our old plans, so every account transitions to one of them.
To make sure you don’t lose any videos, individual accounts renew under whichever new plan keeps your full storage and features at the lowest price. If a different plan suits you better, you can choose it any time before your renewal date.
Companies aren’t allowed to use our new individual plans. Instead, they transition to our new Studio plan, which offers business-level features and capacity at a lower price than our Enterprise plan.
Why is my plan changing?
We’re introducing new plans to match how different people use Vimeo. Before renewal, you can choose whichever new plan best suits you.
Creator, Core, Professional, and Studio are replacing our old plans, so every account transitions to one of them. To make sure you don’t lose any videos, your account renews under whichever new plan keeps your full storage and features at the lowest price.
The biggest change is how storage works. Public videos on Vimeo are now free and unlimited. Instead, plans differ by Managed storage, which is for non-public or embeddable videos only.
This means people sharing work publicly on Vimeo avoid limits designed for business hosting, while the price of non-public and embeddable video better reflects its value for commercial users.
What happens to my videos?
Nothing changes. Your new plan keeps all your existing storage, so every video stays exactly where it is, with the same settings. If you decide to switch to a smaller plan, we suggest checking that your non-public and embeddable videos fit within its Managed storage.
Will I lose access to any of my Vimeo videos?
No. No videos are deleted, and we email you a month before your plan changes.
Your account automatically renews under whichever new plan keeps your full storage and features at the lowest price. If you stay on the plan your account automatically renews under, you keep all your existing storage. Public, non-embeddable videos are unlimited on every plan, so they never count towards a limit.
The only way a video becomes unavailable is if you deliberately choose a smaller plan and your Managed storage goes over its limit. Even then, the video is locked, not deleted. It remains downloadable for 6 months, and it unlocks when you free up space or upgrade.
Which plan will I move to?
For individuals, your account will automatically renew under whichever new plan keeps your full storage and features at the lowest price:
- If you’re on Starter or Plus, you’ll transition to Core.
- If you’re on Standard, Advanced, Pro, or Business, you’ll transition to Professional.
You can choose a different plan here before your renewal date, and you’ll renew under that plan instead.
Companies aren’t allowed to use our new individual plans. Instead, they transition to our new Studio plan, which offers business-level features and capacity at a lower price than our Enterprise plan.
When will my plan change?
For the vast majority of users, your plan changes at your next renewal. But since we’re rolling the plans out gradually, some users will transition a few months later. Either way, we’ll email you one month before, with your new plan, price, and renewal date, so you have time to decide what’s right for you. You can check your next renewal date—and if you’re scheduled to transition then—on your Billing page.
Can I choose a different plan?
Absolutely. You can choose any new plan from our plans page before your renewal date, and your account will renew under that plan instead.
Can I downgrade my Vimeo plan instead of paying more?
Yes. You can choose any plan from our plans page before your renewal date, and your account will renew under that one instead.
If you move to a plan with less Managed storage than you’re using, the videos over the limit are locked, not deleted. Locked videos stay in your account and unlock as soon as you free up space or move to a bigger plan—but they can’t be played, embedded, or edited while they’re locked. They do stay downloadable for another six months, so you have time to save anything you need. We lock the most recently uploaded videos first, so your oldest work stays available.
Before you confirm a change, your billing page shows a warning if it will lock any videos.
How much storage do I get?
All new plans have unlimited storage for public, non-embeddable videos. Managed storage for non-public or embeddable videos varies by plan:
- Free: 3 GB
- Creator: 50 GB
- Core: 500 GB*
- Professional: 7 TB
*If you’re an existing user transitioning to Core, your Core plan includes 2 TB of Managed storage instead of the standard 500 GB for as long as it continues. If you change plan or cancel, this allowance will not carry over to a different Core subscription.
Which videos count towards my storage now?
Only videos that are non-public or embeddable count towards your storage—this is called Managed storage.
That includes:
- Videos with a privacy setting other than Public
- Videos that are set to Embeddable, even if they’re not embedded anywhere
Public videos that aren’t embeddable don’t count towards your storage, and are now unlimited on every plan.
You can change a video’s privacy and embed settings anytime from its video page.
Is Vimeo cutting my storage?
No. Your account will automatically transition to whichever new plan keeps your full storage and features at the lowest price. This means you won’t lose any storage, and your videos are safe.
Users transitioning automatically to Core get 2 TB of managed storage, and unlimited public storage. Users transitioning automatically to Professional get 7 TB of managed storage, and unlimited public storage.
Before renewal, you can choose to renew under a different plan, in which case we recommend checking that your videos fit within that plan’s managed storage limit. You can see how much storage you’re using in the bottom left corner of your home page.
Will I lose any features?
Your new plan includes all the storage and features you have today, so you can carry on exactly as before. If you’re thinking of switching to a smaller plan, you can see what each one includes here.
Do I need to do anything?
No. If you’re happy with your new plan, it renews automatically on your renewal date. You’ll keep all your storage and features.
If you’d like something different, you can either:
- Choose a different plan: Pick any new plan from our plans page, and your account renews under that one instead. If you choose Professional, your new benefits start right away.
- Cancel: You can cancel anytime from your Billing page. Your plan stays active until your renewal date, and you won’t be charged again.
Where's the email you sent me?
We email you one month before your plan change, with the subject line “Your Vimeo plan and price will change on [date].” If your renewal is more than a month away, you won’t have received it yet. You can choose which new plan you’d like to renew on here.
Can I stay on my old plan?
No. We’re sunsetting our old plans, so every account will transition to a new plan. However, you can pick whichever new plan suits you best before your renewal date.
Is there still a Free plan?
Yes, and it’s better than ever. Free now includes unlimited public storage and bandwidth, so you can share as many videos as you like publicly on Vimeo. You also get more features, and 3 GB of Managed storage for private or embeddable videos. Learn more
What is the Vimeo Indie plan and who is eligible?
The Indie Program is a 90% discount on Vimeo Professional for independent filmmakers. It’s our way of putting $5 million back into the community that built Vimeo.
To be eligible, your films need to be your own: you hold the rights and have full creative control, including final cut. However, taking commercial work alongside your own films doesn’t rule you out.
You can apply at vimeo.com/indie-program. There are a limited number of spots, and the discount has no expiry date.
How are accounts identified as businesses?
There are several objective, account-level factors that help us understand if you’re using Vimeo as a business. You can read our Plan Usage Policy for more details.
Are Vimeo Enterprise customers affected?
No. Enterprise plans aren’t affected by these changes.
The new plans replace our self-serve plans: Free, Creator, Core, Professional, and Studio. If you’re on an Enterprise plan, your storage and pricing stay as they are.
